Ran native Linux program via Wine...

In my confusion and foolery, I accidentally ran a native Linux game via Wine, and to my surprise it did run. Why was this? Shouldn't this get an error?

This was always possible, but it required making a change in the registry.

Whether this is a bug or a new feature, I don't know either.
It might be useful to open a bug report, just to be sure.

Can this damage any of the game files?

I don't expect that, though it could be that user configuration files (save games) are saved in a different place or with wrong credentials.
