Native Access and Kontakt Player with Wine and Ubuntu

Post by Okturion »

Hello everyone!
I am new to this forum and not that familiar with Linux.
I produces music with my Mac and now want to change to Linux.

For me it is important to use a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to produce music.
I own some music libraries and they have to be connected to the Kontakt 5 Player of Native Instruments.
I also have to register the libraries with the help of Native Access.
Both Programs are only written for Windows and Mac.

I read in the internet that somehow it is possible to install NativeAccess.exe on Ubuntu with Wine.
Now I am confused with Wine-stable and Wine-staging.
I installed both versions but when I try to install the exe with the help of Wine, I get the following error:
“Javascript Error”
Uncaught Exception. Path must be absolute.
It seems that there is a problem with the installation path, but I don’t know how to change that.

Maybe somebody managed this problem in the past and can help me?
Here is a similar topic in this forum, but the thread is locked: viewtopic.php?t=29895

Best regards!

I successfully managed it to install Native Access and Kontakt 6.
I can register my Libraries with Wine and Native Access. And I can open Kontakt 6 as a standalone app.
So far, so good.
But... how it is possible to load the Kontakt 6 Plugin in my DAW like Reaper or Ardour?
I mean the .wine folder is not visible for other programs.
Does somebody know how I can fix that problem?

Sorry, I can't really help with your issue, but I might be able to help clear things up. ".wine" is only hidden when doing "ls" type commands. It is always there and should be accessible. You can even change it or create an "alias" for it. To create an alias or a symbolic link, do the following:

Code: Select all

cd
ln -s .wine wine
Then you can use "wine" instead of ".wine". It isn't that big of a difference, but sometimes file explorer type things will be clumsy in dealing with them and this is a workaround type thing. Good Luck! Maybe you got it going already.

Any linux file with a "." as the first character of the name will be treated this way. Hidden only when listing files. Do a "ls -a" to list all files, including hidden ones.
