Cant get full screen

I cant get anything (including: Games, word, etc.) working in full screen.
It just goes black and i have to quit the program and lose all my work.
No errors or any warnings. Just a black screen.

What video card/drivers? Does a virtual desktop help?

i No, virtual doesn't help at all. And i have NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver.
And the card, i don't know

Did you try to switch to text console ([alt]+[ctrl]+[F1])? Could be your monitor does not support set resolution/refresh rate.
