Can't Remove Unwanted Apps In MS Office '03 In Ubuntu - HELP

Post by taurusx5 »

Hi, guys! During installation of MS Office 2003 in ubuntu 8.04 through wine, a window popped up giving me an option to custom-install only the programs I wanted, like, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook. I only chose Word and Excel. However, when the installation ended, I ended up with ALL of the apps of Office. I tried to uninstall the unwanted apps without success. How do I remove the unwanted Office apps and keep only Word and Excel?

What version of Wine, and did it actually install all the programs, or just add menu items for them? I remember an older version of Wine (pre-1.0) once creating menu items for all the apps for me, though it only installed the ones I had chosen. But that problem was fixed some time ago.

If it's just menu items, you can remove them yourself with your menu editor.

The version of Wine I'm using is 1.1.6, the most recent. And, to answer your second question, the apps were installed, not the menu items. What do you suggest I do now?

Actually, there already appears to be a bug report, though it was originally for Office 2000: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6719
I've added a comment confirming that it also affects Office 2003.

dimesio, thanks for all your help. I'd like to know at this point since Wine can't uninstall certain MS Office apps that I don't want, do you think I can use Crossover? Can Crossover help me with this?

Dimesio, I forgot to mention that when I try to uninstall some MS Office apps trough Wine, I get an error message that says:

Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

Wine's uninstaller doesn't work very well. I have no idea if Crossover will be better for this problem, but since they have a free trial, it can't hurt to try.

Is there a reason you need to uninstall the apps? They won't hurt anything just being there.

Hi, dimesio. Thanks for the reply. I need to uninstall the uneeded apps (and just leave Word and Excel) because I don't want them to clutter my system.

Also, do you think wine-doors can help me uninstall these individual apps? Do you know where I can download it?

And lastly, how can I uninstall Office entirely and Wine? I want to start over and install Office and Wine fresh.
