Preferred Version of Wine to Use When Coming for Help

Post by RobertX »

Which Wine version do I need to use before I get help here, Stable, Development, or Staging?

In the Bugzilla portion, I need to use Development, which is why I ask.

Thanks!

A new Wine Development version is released about every two weeks. At the beginning of the year, that version becomes the new Stable version and the development version moves on.
So it may happen that a bug that is in the stable version has been solved in the development version.
Some bugs have a fix that is not yet good enough for the development version of Wine. These fixes are in Wine Staging.

The Protocol of asking for further help.

Thank you for the answer, jkfloris.

I am using a held-back version of Wine Development (7.2), because my Command and Conquer Generals game continued displaying disappearing textures again in the newer versions (I saw it on 7.5). The bug was reported to the Bugzilla system of WInehq.org.

Should reported bugs be reported here as well, or should they stay in that section only?

I ask because that question was not included in the FAQ or the report guide in this forum as far as I know.

Also, how do I keep up with the report to see if the bug is fixed yet?

Bugs do not need to be reported in the forum.

It does happen the other way around. A user is not sure if something is a bug and asks for help on the forum. Then it turns out to be a bug, after which a bug is opened on Bugzilla.
In your case, it is clearly a (regression) bug. So it can be reported directly on Bugzilla.

You will get an email at the address you registered with on Bugzilla when someone responds to your bug.
