Wine install error on Ubuntu 18.04 server: "requested an impossible situation" and "held broken packages."

Post by catsserver »

Preface, I'm new to Linux. I setup an Ubuntu 18.04 server and use LinuxGSM to install and manage video game servers. Didn't want to use Windows because the idle performance of command-line Linux was better. But now it's screwing me over because some games don't support Linux and I can't get Wine installed properly.

I was following this guide https://conanexiles.fandom.com/wiki/Ded ... and_Screen to get a Conan Exiles server running on Linux. Parts of it are outdated, namely the Release.key step but I figured out how to get that resolved by finding this thread (viewtopic.php?t=31621) and later finding the WineHQ wiki page (https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu).

Full install process:

I haven't been able to Google a fix for it, this was a last resort for me.

Ubuntu 18.04/Linux Mint 19.x do not provide FAudio, which is a dependency of current Wine. Follow the instructions in viewtopic.php?f=8&t=32192 to install FAudio from the OBS. (FAudio packages for Ubuntu 19.10 and later are in the distro's universe repository.)
Did you install the libfaudio0 packages?

Code: Select all

wget -nc https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Emulators:/Wine:/Debian/xUbuntu_18.04/i386/libfaudio0_19.07-0~bionic_i386.deb
wget -nc https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Emulators:/Wine:/Debian/xUbuntu_18.04/amd64/libfaudio0_19.07-0~bionic_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i libfaudio0_19.07-0~bionic_i386.deb libfaudio0_19.07-0~bionic_amd64.deb
sudo apt -f install
