Lisa8 FEM - Set Up Error - Microsoft.Visual Basic

Post by Ironfighter »

I am a Linux novice and absolutely brand new to Wine and this is my first post on this forum so I hope I have observed all the protocols.
I have downloaded the Free Limited version of this programme which I had previously run on Windows 7,8 &10.
https://lisafea.com/
Using Wine 5.2 (staging) and winetricks I had partial success but when I ran the programme I ran into an error which causes it to crash.
There are 2 post from this forum from many years ago but they don't seem to be related to my error message.
I have added some screen shots and the error report and my system information

It was a mistake ticking the adobeair dll I don't think I need it

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is a very good programme and one of the few I really want from windows

Graphics card supporting Shader Model 1.1 Unknown
Did you install the 32-bit Mesa packages? If you followed the directions on WineHQ and used "--install-recommends", you should.

Jkfloris thank you for your reply:

“ Did you install the 32-bit Mesa packages? If you followed the directions on WineHQ and used "--install-recommends", you should.”

The answer is no but I will now that you have pointed me to it and post the outcome

Jkfloris - I removed my installation of Wine (long story short I was getting errors) but after that I was able to start by following your advice on Wine HQ forum - in the terminal I ran:-

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
wget -O - https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key | sudo apt-key add -

But then I got stuck at the "Add Repository" Stage so:

This is the procedure I followed:

Ran every command on this page in the Terminal
https://wine.htmlvalidator.com/install- ... ux-19.html

From there I took followed this advice from this You Tuber - he really helped me understand what is involved in this process:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmOdA5GeSqs
as follows:-

mkdir Wine
cd Wine
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/"Username"/Wine/Lisa winecfg
Wine installed Mono & Gecko itself after I agreed.
Windows Version 7

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/"Username"/Wine/Lisa winetricks
Install dll Zenity Dotnet 2.0 dxvk vcrun6 wsh52 xna3.1

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=/home/"Username"/Wine/Lisa wine lisa800setup.exe

From there it was just like any installation I had done in Windows
I got one pop up error relating to MS Visual Basic (which this programme doesn't require according to the Lisa help guy). When I clicked OK it just disappeared and the programme loaded up.

I then loaded quite a complex file which I had created some time ago in Windows. It loaded up fine. The only thing I couldn't get working was the graphics animation of the FEM Solution but everything else appears good. If anyone can come up with a way to resolve that issue I would be Windows Free

Pretty much. Though only the 'winetricks' directory under .cache if it's there, ignore it if not. (.cache has things like your web browser cache which you probably don't want.) Also by default wine uses symlinks under C:\users to ~/Documents and others. It's possible some apps may use those so it's something to check if you find out you're missing something. Thanks

“ thanks my issue has been fixed.”

iosman001-thank you for your response. When I tried to use the programme I found that there were some items missing from the menu structure and some other graphics problems so I decided this was not the way to go. I have been able to get it operating properly in a VM so I have settled for that solution.

Please accept my apologies for not responding to your post.
