Regular video playback freezes in Chrome Browser through Wine

Post by Cloudy5546 »

Hi

Is there a way to improve Chrome Browser Windows 32/64-bit performance, video playback support in Wine?
I need to use Windows Chrome browser since a video provider decided to upgrade to Widevine VMP and block Linux playback.
Video playback is mostly 540/720p/1080p H264 video.
It works but every 30 seconds or so the video freezes, audio gets corrupt for a second and resumes again which doesn't happen on native Windows or Linux, before it was blocked.
Every time this happens, there seems to be a CPU usage spike.
Is there some way to improve the video caching or browser performance and stability?

I also tried Firefox browser and it installed but couldn't launch any site then it said the site couldn't open and crashes so couldn't use it.
The top tsite ab bars were also not displaying correctly.
Anyone got Firefox working correctly?

Microsoft Edge Chromium also couldn't launch.
Anyway to get that working since it also supports Widevine VMP?

Do you really need the windows version of Chrome (since it has a feature that is not available on Linux) or do they just block people who use linux because they can? In the first case it might require a lot of work improve the performance, in the latter case it's probably enough to pretend that you are using the Windows version of Chrome by to telling the Linux version to send the user agent string it sends on windows, so the page thinks you are using the Windows version of Chrome.
