Hello gentlemen,
I try to start Team Fortress 2, which shows the Valve splash screen in a little box in the middle of my screen (supposed to be fullscreen), and then the screen goes black for a second and it crashes afterwards. I tried running it with '-dxlevel 81' both from the wine command in the terminal and in the game's properties in Steam, but it shows no difference.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to go about fixing this? I like my TF2.
P.S. I run Wine 1.1.4 on the most current version of 64-bit Arch Linux.
P.S.S. I also tried to install DirectX 9 through winetricks before finishing downloading TF2, is that a problem? Does it affect the way DirectX 8 works?
EDIT: I erased and reinstalled WINE without downloading DirectX 9 and now the game doesn't crash! But the new problem is that all the text and graphics are garbled. I think this requires a simple fix that I did once before, can anyone remind me of it?

New problem: The game now loads via Steam but doesn't end up running at all.
