Only 1 more thing to switch to linux - Trackmania

Is there a way to make this game work under Wine, becouse it doesn't wok (TMNF) and it is one of the last things that stops me from moving to linux 100%
Well, I install it normally (double click) and everything, but when I press Start game it crashes and nothing works.
My computer:
- Up-to date Ubuntu
- Core2Quad Q6600
- ATI/AMD radeon 3870 - restricted drivers
- 4G of RAM
- I've tried with CompizFusion On/Off but same resolt.

That is probably because of the Starforce copy protection.

Depends on what version. There are several Trackmanias listed on the AppDB, some run, some don't. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trackmania ... ia_Nations , some versions use Starforce, some don't.

There is console output. It does the same thing as it always does.
When running a program from the console, cd to the directory where the executable is located and run it from there.

This doesn't look like a StarForce issue--I don't see any failed attempt to load StarForce drivers. Try what the error messages suggest--native d3dx9_36.dll and d3dx9_30.dll.

Ah your talking about the new Trackmania Nations Forever. I thought you meant the original Trackmania.

I don't know how nicely will the old on work, but Nations Forever should work perfectly if you follow the HOWTO here: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=11595

I've tried it your way, Usurp, but same.
I've also tried to change those two dlls but problem:
I've went into wineconfig and libraries tab and choose the correct library, click edit and change to ''native''. Then also with sececond dll. And then when I run game:

Yes, you actually have to copy those dlls from windows into Wine's system32 dir. Or download them from the web. For example here: http://www.threelights.de/index.php?pag ... _files.php

Yes, you actually have to copy those dlls from windows into Wine's system32 dir. Or download them from the web. For example here: http://www.threelights.de/index.php?pag ... _files.php
They work fine if copied to the game's folder in Program files...
(Without overrides set up in winecfg)

It is probably the incorrect way to import library, because I didn't import actually nothing.
Yes, you actually have to copy those dlls from windows into Wine's system32 dir. Or download them from the web. For example here: http://www.threelights.de/index.php?pag ... _files.php
They work fine if copied to the game's folder in Program files...
(Without overrides set up in winecfg)

Sorry for being late on response but here I am.
Thanks for answers, but still doesn't work, I have also tried with those 4 of 5 dlls (i can't find ThumbGbx.dll) but still,...
second: I have downloaded preinstalled version of Yu-gi-oh games for my little brother, and they, all 3 works 100% with wine - i am so grateful.
So I am asking myself if there exist a version of TMNF that comes in a folder that I just run (let's say) TmNations.exe and it directly in game. I called this stuff preinstalled versions.
If you have any more ideas on howto please post here.

The only DLL files copied into the directory is d3dx9_30.dll
d3dx9_36.dll The rest is installed with TrackMania.

The wrap_oal.dll is to be obtained (overwriting the default version)
from the link in the howto:

I'm not sure if both d3dx9 SLL files are neccesary, instructions
seemed to conflict so I used both. I obtained my version from the
DirectX August 2880 redistributable
(http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/deta ... laylang=en),
installed with a slightly modified winetricks (which wanted to
download an older version, which I did not want to do since I already
downloaded the newer version and internet data is expensive in South
Africa) into a seperate WINEPREFIX. (The version that winetricks
downloads should work as well, but do not install DirectX into the
same WINEPREFIX as TrackMania / other games it will break stuff...)

Run the game through the launcher until it works... Try setting the
settings to a minimum first and increasing it slowly once it is
working.
