RPC / OLE errors (?) causing app to fail

Hi there,

Our company uses a server monitoring product called NimBUS, and at one point I was able to use the client very nicely with Wine. That was 0.9.37, and from 0.9.38 onwards a critical part at the startup fails, at the part where it tries to connect to the monitoring hub server.

Nimsoft do provide a trial version, on request, but that's probably a nightmare, so I'm happy to do whatever testing is required. For reference, it's this:

I'm hoping that someone can see what's going wrong from the output.

At this point it's brought up a dialog box saying that it can't connect to "server ()", whereas on 0.9.37 it would say that it can't connect to "server (127.0.0.1)". The next screen allows me to put in the IP address of the monitoring hub, but it fails in the same way as above, seemingly not being able to talk to the network.

Any ideas? I've tried various permutations of winetricks installs to no effect, but I'll happily try again if someone has an inkling of which to go for.

I can also of course provide any sort of WINEDEBUG trace, just let me know what you think will be relevant.

Sorry if this is a vague one, but I'd really appreciate some help getting this running, as we've got a dozen Linux techs here having to use Windows terminals to run this, and I'd like to relieve us all of the trauma.

http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting - run a regression test to identify the commit that broke things, search for the id of the commit on bugzilla http://bugs.winehq.org - if someone hasn't filed a bug report already, create a new one with the result of the regression test.

Thanks for the links. I did spend a couple of hours trying the brute-force approach, but couldn't even get a good build environment set up for the old version. I'll undoubtedly try again in the near future, but until then was hoping that a wizard could find something useful in the traces.

0.9.38 is REALLY old, upgrade to 1.1.3, and try again. If not, run a
regression test.

By chance, I see that someone else was getting similar OLE warnings in the Saab Electronic Parts Catalogue thread, along with some possible winetricks options to make progress - dcom98 and mdac28.

I'll give those a try when I'm back at work next week. Fingers crossed!

By chance, I see that someone else was getting similar OLE warnings in the Saab Electronic Parts Catalogue (http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=2231) thread, along with some possible winetricks options to make progress - dcom98 and mdac28.

I'll give those a try when I'm back at work next week. Fingers crossed!

I don't know about DCOM98. I have copied and pasted this message from Bug 14743.
"It's dlls/advapi32/service.c who uses it, and since Wine installs and runs its own services (mountmgr and spool) by default now, DCOM9x is no more compatible with Wine. (And actually that's the reason why ies4linux and similar wrappers installing DCOM9x are broken under Wine since some time)."
So DCOM98 may not work?
