Duel Core

Post by Tpolich »

Quite a few of the games I play only run on one of the two cores in wine. This makes it constantly around 50% for the game play time while the other is around 1-5%. I was wondering if only using one of the cores for a long period of time can cause any damage/problems. Thank You.

not unless you remove your cpu fan, it stops working, or fills up with a lot of dust.

You might want to flip the CPU upside-down after a while so the second core will get more use. It's a bit tricky if you have quad-core CPU. You will have to flip it and turn around every so often... :)

Can you really just flip it? When I built my computer I didn't pay that much attention but I thought the little no pin points prevented you from putting it in any way other then one. I got an AMD athlon 64 x2.

Of course you can't flip it or rotate it - it won't fit or even if it will it will immediately burn. I was just kidding.
