Installation using wine gets stuck at .NET Framework 4.6.2

Post by michuvon »

Hi, I'm newly coming over from OS X to Linux (Ubuntu 18.04) and I'm in the process of getting alternatives and so on.
There is just this one App I have bought loads of books with so I can't really give it up.
Here the Windows version download link to it.
https://www.olivetree.com/pc/download.php

Looking at the AppBD it seems there are not many who had a try and so there is very little information
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=30250

I'm running in to trouble with the installation already. It only goes until .NET Framework 4.6.2 and stops. (I have left it over night, so inpacience is not the issue.)
Do i need to install this .NET before I can install my reader? (yes I was a Mac user for long.. I have no Idea about Windows installations.. dependencies.. etc..)

Now, I assume that I'm not the alone with a .NET issue but I just could not find any workaround guide. (Maybe I'm just using the wrong keywords in my DuckDuckGo search?) Could someone point me to the write answer?
Thanks, much appreciated!

If you install .Net with winetricks before the installer, the installer continues.

Code: Select all

winetricks dotnet462
# or a higher version
But on my system the installer fails at the end with a "1603" error. Maybe you have more luck

I see, I'm not the first with this issue.
https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks/issues/1124

And here is the potential solution:
https://github.com/austin987/winetricks ... c33d060b6b

However, I have no clue about GitHub.. :? No Idea what I'm supposed to do.
Anyone who has the patience and can explain it to me?

 sorry.. but I really don't know how to do that.. what I'm I supposed to input in to the Terminal to do that?
I have tried and played around for a couple of hours now but cant really find out how to..
I don't think I succeed so far, this is the output:

and this is the output or dotnet462

This is a known winetricks issue, see: dotnet462 fails - sha256 mismatch on dotNetFx462_Full_x86_x64_Slim.exe #1124.
The final comment has a suitable workaround.

RE: the process of installing winetricks itself...

You should have been given a link to the main: Github: Winetricks / winetricks webpage.
I've recently updated the README instructions, at the bottom of this webpage.
This includes instructions for how to install and keep updated the winetricks script, on your system.
Plus how to install the accompanying BASH completion script, which was made available for winetricks this year.

If you've any comments about these instructions.
E.g. they are "too hard for me" - with plenty of information about why / what specifically is difficult to understand!
Then raise an issue on the Github: Winetricks / winetricks Issue tracker.

Thanks

hi, thanks.
I still feel like doing things blindly and just copy paste stuff in to the terminal that I have no idea about..

So, I followed this instructions: https://github.com/Winetricks/winetrick ... /README.md
From:
If the package is unavailable, outdated, or the latest version is desired, a manual installation of winetricks can be done. E.g.:
Until:
for a system-wide winetricks installation.

I just copy-pasted all of it...
To my amateur eyes it looked like nothing happened... Also the output of winetricks --versions was still the same as above.

Anyway I just run winetricks dotnet462 again, and there was no Error right away. But the .NET installer came up (2x).
I did see a number of fails, err, and workaround running passed on the terminal.
And the whole thing took quite long. It ended with: exit status 66 - dotnet461 installation failed

EDIT:

Looking at the graphical interface of winetricks, dotnet462 is not installed.

Try to install dotnet with the -q option:

Code: Select all

winetricks -q dotnet462

sorry, my fault, seems like the installer crashed or so.
I just used the Visual interface to "Delete ALL DATA AND APPLICATIONS INSIDE THIS WINEPREFIX"
and installed all again. Now dotnet462 is installed.

OK... So it would it help if I added in comments before each command, to explain what it does?

Right I'll have a chat with Austin about that...
We'll probably need to recommend uninstalling the outdated packaged version of winetricks, as well.
Perhaps move to using /usr/bin, as well...

Thanks for the feedback! 8)

I think so. However, don't invest to much time in this, often people like me will still not really understand what they are doing. Its often a thing of trust - like: "just input this to the terminal, it will do what you need."
____________________________________________________________________________

By now I'm a bit further, (I have made a documentation of my steps, so later I'll be able to update the infos in the AppDB https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=30250.)

This is where I stand:

After using the graphical interface of Winetricks to: "Delete ALL DATA AND APPLICATIONS INSIDE THIS WINEPREFIX"

I made the following inputs in the termianal:

Code: Select all

WINEPREFIX="$HOME/prefix32" WINEARCH=win32 wine wineboot

winetricks dotnet462

winetricks corefonts vcrun6
All these installations ended successful and there is also no 64-bit Wineprefix warning any more.
So I tried to install my App againhttps://www.olivetree.com/pc/download.php.

This time it does not get stuck at .NET any more but the installation fails still with the error:

0x80070643

Can it be that I'm still to install a few DLLs and try again or is all hope lost?
Just searching the above (0x80070643) in google, duckduckgo and here did not really help me yet. (But I have also not yet searched very long.)

Is there some guide with core DLLs that are recommended to install?

I've a pull request open on the Winetricks Github page, with a slight re-vamp of the winetricks installation documentation.
It's not perfect, but it does try to describe the fun the steps as it goes long.
Also I've hopefully removed the issue; where your package manager installation of winetricks will simply usurp any user installed copy!

I'm of the opinion that many people want to get a bit more familiar with the inner workings of their computer...
So anything that nudges them in the right direction, has got to be a good thing! 8)
