WAR Beta Installer issues

Post by Armenius »

After downloading the torrent for WAR Beta, I'm trying to open "setup.exe" with Wine. Almost immediately this error message is given:

Code: Select all

Warhammer installer requires later DirectX components than are installed. Warhammer Installer will now exit.

Don't panic, you will be brought to Microsoft's DirectX page for a Web Install of the lastest DirectX. Please rerun the Warhammer Installer after DirectX Installation.
Anyone had any luck running WAR Beta with Wine? I'd really like to be able to enjoy the Preview weekend that starts tomorrow :D.

WAR Beta Installer issues

I just gave it a go.

get winetricks and install gecko + directx9
run setup and patch or (like me) copy off your windows partition (I
was in closed beta playing on windows) and run it.

It runs but cannot find any servers, could be because they are all
down getting ready for preview weekend though. I will try in windows
shortly to check if the behaviour is the same

Thanks! I was able to run setup.exe, but when I attempted to run WAR an error message displayed with:

Code: Select all

The patch client was unable to retrieve the file [patcher.prod.sig] from the patch server. Please try the patch operation again in a short while.

Hm, well after moving said file I no longer was receiving the patching error, but then again opening WAR.exe or warpatch.exe resulted in absolutely nothing happening :?. Frustrating...

sorry im not very computer smart so i was wondering if you could give me a little more instruction on the problem with the error:

the patch client was unable to retrieve the file [patcher.prod.sig]

thanks in advance i want to play!!!

ps i played the preview weekend this morning for like 5 min before class because i couldnt wait but after my class is when the error came up.

EDIT: i figured out what your talking about and there is already a file with that name in the folder you said to put it in. any other ideas?

As with WoW patches, I would think there would be some way to download the patch via means other than running Warhammer and then open the patch to "go around" this problem so to speak.

Not sure on alternate patch downloads as you have to login before
patch fpr WAR. And since it is still in Beta I am 100% sure there is
no alternative at this time

I was away all weekend so missed out on preview weekend. Servers are
down now so I do not know if they will stay that way until Open Beta?

Are you running Ubuntu by any chance?

I'm probably getting the same problem as you:
If I go into the wine settings window and turn on the Virtual Desktop. Then run "wine warpatch.exe" the virtual desktop will load but no patcher. If you single click the close button "X", the patcher login window will appear, then disappear without entering anything into it after ~20 seconds.

I guess clicking the close button is breaking a loop/deadlock which is stopping the GUI from displaying, but only to make the app close in a few seconds.

My Results on a fresh copy of Ubuntu 8.04

I have Wine insalled with DX9 and Gecko from Winetricks, and the winhttp.dll i found on google.

For the patcher: It loads but doesnt show up till 1 press once on the X of the emulated desktop. I login, and get the BTA, once I accept, it waits 3-4 seconds and crashes.

For the game: It loads if you call it directly, finishes loading, but Errors because it doesn't have Authentication, and closes.

So unless we get the patcher to work properly, I don't think we can get ingame...

I also ran the game in 1650x1050 windowed mode with no emulated desktop. Works perfectly fine.

All we need is to get that patcher working.
