Graphic Problems

Post by CCorreia »

Hello all.
I've been having a problem with games (that I've noticed so far) that when I try to run the game, the screen flicks like it was changing to fullscreen, when it returns I can barelly make out anything of the screen, since everything is broken, I have to alt+tab to the Wine app and Alt+F4 to be able to return to the desktop.

I've been testing several configurations with winecfg and checking the manual and the faq trying to see something that looked like what I'm experiencing without any luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the Application Database for your game?
http://appdb.winehq.org/
Some more information would be useful for example your wine version, terminal output etc.

Sounds like a well known "checkerboard" bug with ATi drivers - http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1173

I did, the problem is consistent between all of the games I tried, from what I've seen it's not application dependent, since windows apps run just fine, for now only the games that I try to run (except for transport tycoon :) ).

I gave up on Wine & ATI a few months ago with the same issues you mention, had a really nice ATI card what worked wonders on this machine in windows. Under linux it worked great with everything but Wine :( So went for an nvidia and dispite all the uproar about them not being opensource I am happy as it simply works.
