Putting it in system32 is not enough. You need to set it to native in winecfg.

this is the error with d3dx9_36 set to native

wine TankCombat.exe

err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\City Interactive\\Tank Combat\\bin\\TankCombat.exe" failed, status c0000135
without d3dx9_35.dll the game just sits on a initialising gfx screen and fails to get any further..

You can't just set dll to native. You actually have to copy one from windows into Wine's system32 directory.

ok. those ddl's are in .wine/drive_c/windows/system32

d3dx9_35.dll
d3dx9_36.dll

both set to native...

ok i just noticed something...

the dll's i got from my winxp box, but apparently they are d3dx10 not 9...

have since just replaced them with the correct ones and its working..

Is that all? Anything after this?
Something crashes in the float point operation. But hard to see what exactly. You can try and disable GLSL (via registry - http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys ) or even pixed shaders (in winecfg). And see what this game will do.

in winecfg - i disable vertex, game said i didnt have a card to support it.. wouldnt load..

So i then trid the reg-edit - i didnt have that key so i added like it said to etc..

and i still get the same error
