Winedbg detected

Hello
I would like to run a debugger or log window to detect what goes wrong when trying to run Sims2, but when I use winedbg Sims2.exe and step it, I get a popup that a debugger was detected. How can I mask, or hide wine's debugger? Would i need a root kit? or is that just something that works on windows. Thanks!

Oh yeah and it might be helpful to note: When I click to download the unstable version 1.1.2 it takes me to http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb and where it says "If you are using Ubuntu, you can now install Wine by clicking this link. Alternatively, you can install by going to Applications->Add/Remove and searching for Wine." but when I click the link, it downloads and installs version 1.0 not 1.1.2 (not sure how to get 1.1.2)

winedbg is a debugger. And Wine reports that when program tries to check if debugger is attached or not. Of course root kits won't work on Wine so that won't help you.

So there is no way to test and find out why Sims2 does not load then?

So there is no way to test and find out why Sims2 does not load then?

Just try no-cd patch see if that helps. If not, then not much you can do.

Ok sorry to bug you.

I can get Sims to launch With the dvd, but instead of playing it just causes the screen resolution to go bonkers and sits there broken so I have to kill it. This is what I required a debugger or a log of some sort for, to determine where it stalls and find out why and if there is anything I could do for it.

No-Cd crack won't even start up, I have tried that.

I just wanted to know if there was a way to "hack" wine into working with Sims2 but as I am not quite as knowledgeable as I wish I were, it does not appear to be a very promising goal. I understand it takes a lot of reading and research to become a skilled developer and that questions like mine must get annoying, so again I do apologize.

If it would not be an inconvenience, please let me know if there are any pages in particular that a newbie to this (linux/wine) should start out reading in order to learn more about the functions and working of wine.

the ability to play sims2 in particular is the only thing holding my sister from switching to linux, It would seem the only use for xp any more is gaming, if that was not desired or if we had a console there would be no practical reason to not switch to linux fully.

If the OP is willing to build a local copy of wine, that AppDB entry
includes a patch that another user states will get the game working.

Obviously support for a modified version of wine is a little difficult,
but if it works for the OP...
