Baldur's Gate II can't find my CD

Post by Celejar »

Hi,

I managed to install BG II (following some posts at
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... on&iId=408), with
some difficulty. I eventually copied all the files from all four disks
into a single directory, and the install then proceeded smoothly. Now,
the launch screen comes up fine, but when I select play, it fails with
a windows-style error box claiming:

"We cannot detect a CD-ROM drive on your system. You cannot play
Baldur's Gate without a CD-ROM drive."

I click OK, and it terminates. The only error seen on the console is:

err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize

I have a CD-ROM drive; it's /dev/hdb, and it's mounted
at /media/cdrom0. What am I doing wrong?

Debian Sid, wine 1.0.0

Have you mapped the drive in winecfg? It's on the Drives tab; you have to click the "Show Advanced" button to see the option to set the drive type.

I had mapped the drive, and I had fiddled with the mapping repeatedly,
but it turns out that for some reason wine had decided that h:
-> /media/cdrom0 was a hard drive. Switching the type (after selecting
'show advanced') solved the problem. Now all I have to do is figure out
why I can't save games, and why the mousing is so jerky, and I'll be in
the clover.

Thanks again,
