Phone and Modem Options...

Post by Bytten »

Apparently there are some applications *cough*healthscreen*cough* which NEED to have a modem set up under the "Phone and Modem" options using the control panel (which IMHO is just silly). The COM port is there, terminals see it and can talk to the EXTERNAL modem connected to it with no trouble, but the application won't talk to the COM port directly. As a result the application thinks that because there is no modem listed in the registry (wherever they hide it in there) there is no modem installed, even though the COM port is there and data can be sent to it.
Aside from this one hitch (isn't there ALWAYS one?) the app works PERFECTLY under WINE and would allow the user (who is not me) to escape the clutches of MicroSloth entirely.

Any and all assistance is appreciated.

If it needs RAS functionality - you out of luck. Wine does not implement any of it.

Yeah it needs RAS... guess I'll have to set them up on a virtual machine which means that they need to buy ANOTHER copy of Winblows and hope like he** that the file transfer will work.
*sigh*

RAS and Wine....

Interestingly there is a ras.h include file in the source Copyright (C) 1998 Marcus Meissner, is anyone actively working on this?

No. Some people don't even know what the modem was.
