Mafia (Game that requires DirectX 8.1) install not working

Post by Robocat »

So I downloaded Wine (prebuilt binary for Mac OS X) on my Windows desktop and moved it via flash drive to my Mac OS X laptop (Intel). I ran the Wine installer on the laptop and boom it was complete. Then I inserted the Mafia CD into the slot and tried running the setup.exe file. After getting an error message, I tried four more times and no success. I get the same error messages. Sorry for my overexplaining, but I want to make everything clear. Anyway, here is the log.

err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"E:\\MafiaSetup.exe") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"E:\\MafiaGame\\MafiaSetup.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"E:\\MafiaGame\\MafiaSetup.exe" failed, status c0000135
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"E:\\MafiaSetup.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"E:\\MafiaSetup.exe" failed, status c0000135

This means that you need to get that file and put it into system32 directory. I'm not recomending winetricks because I'm not sure how well it work on Mac.

On Linux it is in $HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/. I guess it is
the same for OS X.

command + shift + g and copy/paste the directory that was mentioned earlier
in. It'll take you right to the directory in OS X.

Also, winetricks works fine with os x if you compiled wine. If you used
darwine, you might need to change the directory it's looking for wine in,
but otherwise it works.

It works just fine here with Mike Kronenberg's or your builds of
Darwine. Thank you for the hint on how to open a directory as well.

Yeah, I meant $HOME/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32. It doesn't work.

I cannot find system32 using spotlight. I just ran the main installer. Was I supposed to install more things? Do I have to use winfile to add the .dll?

OK, I finally figured out putting mfc42.dll into the system32 directory. I obtained the file at dll-files.com. However, I still get the same error message. Guys, you need to help me on this one.

I found the Microsoft site that has dll's and there are a million mfc42.dll files. Which ones do I download to install Mafia and winetricks?

OK, never mind about winetricks. I want to install the key generator for Adobe Flash Professional CS3; it's a .exe file.
