TrackMania United - vehicle turns left on its own

Met with a friend of mine, fired up the good ol' TrackMania United Forever under Wine.

And we found out that, when the race starts, the vehicle turns left as though the left arrow were pressed. After pressing the right arrow, the game proceeds as usually.

Apart from a flood of fixme's, nothing interesting can be found in the logs. Using Wine1.8. Tried wine-staging 1.9.3, but the results are exactly the same. Installing d3d9 by winetricks changes absolutely nothing (but why should it?)

Any ideas?
