Tomb Raider 2 -> CreateDevice Error

Post by SusieV »

Hi

I hope you'll understand me even if I'm italian.

I've just installed wine and tried to play Tomb Raider II.

I did the installation of the game and when I finished, I went in

Wine -> Programs -> Tomb Raider 2.

Then, there was a game setting and when I click ok, the game should run.

But it doesn't start and something notify me that:

Image

what can i do?

I use Ubuntu Hardy.
The game is for Windows 98 (i did che config changement)

Did you disabled / killed / removed pulse audio?

well, if I do this in terminal:

Image

if I do

virginia@ubuntu:~$ wine SETUP.EXE
virginia@ubuntu:~$ cd /media/cdrom
virginia@ubuntu:/media/cdrom$ wine setup.exe

restarts again the installation of the game.

How to play? There should be a tomb2.exe
Where I can find it?

I don't know what you mean. What have I to do?

edit:
Tomb2.exe is on
/home/virginia/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core Design/Tomb Raider II

I did in Terminal

Code: Select all

virginia@ubuntu:~$ cd /virginia/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core Design/Tomb Raider II
bash: cd: /virginia/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core: Nessun file o directory
virginia@ubuntu:~$ cd /.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core Design/Tomb Raider IIbash: cd: /.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core: Nessun file o directory
virginia@ubuntu:~$

what have I go to do? Tell me.

Thank you very much[/code]

what have I go to do?

Code: Select all

man bash
so you never have questions like that.

Code: Select all

cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core\ Design/Tomb\ Raider\ II

thank you very much.

Well... when I write this, the terminal give me the same notice image of the firs post but also this:

Code: Select all

virginia@ubuntu:~/.wine/drive_c/Programmi/Core Design/Tomb Raider II$ wine Tomb2.exe
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f558,0x00000000), stub!
err:d3d7:IDirect3DImpl_7_CreateDevice The application wants to create a Direct3D device, but non-opengl surfaces are set in the registry. Please set the surface implementation to opengl or autodetection to allow 3D rendering

and give me also the settings window.
If I do "ok" in this window, there is again the image notice.

allowing the terminal instruction, I did something in the setup. And it runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another thing...

the game run normal, but the sound is off.

There are some patch in the official site that are available only for Windows. How can I do it in Ubuntu?

http://www.tombraiderhub.com/faq/traudio.html

ps: I explain... these are some .exe files to improve and patch some errors.
How can I apply these if i'm in ubuntu?

as I wrote you before, i don't know what is this...

If you mean the normal audio on pc, it is enable.

Tomb Raider 2 like others older Tomb Raider, need some patch for the music.

I can run some patch that I catch from that site, but when I try to apply this in

/home/virginia/.wine/drive_c
or
H:/home/virginia/.wine/drive_c
H:\home\virginia\.wine\drive_c
H:/home/virginia/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/virginia/Musica
H:\home\virginia\.wine\drive_c\windows\profiles\virginia/Musica

the patch doesn't continue. Like if understand it is not Windows.
"Installation only valid for Windows 2000 XP and Vista
Installation ABORTED........."

I could select with "browse" the drive_c but .wine is ghost so I can't select it. But I don't know, if could change something.

ok thank you.

I ask you a little of patience: how can I see if it is enable or disable?
In the guide, I understood that it explain how to install...

However, I went in Preferences of Audio.

Every Sound is configurated as: "automatic identification". Even if there is from the chooses Pulse Audio.

What can I do?

Thank you again

You need to ask that in the Ubuntu forums.
