Internet blocked for one application, but not others

Post by OSXwino »

Hi there, I'm having some trouble getting a Windows application to connect to the internet, while running under Wine in OS X.

This is on a MacBook Air, late 2012.

The application is Virtualskipper 5, unfortunately available only for Windows. Here's a link to the free download: http://www.virtualskipper.com/

The program installs fine, but when I try to run it, it will not connect to the outside world.

When I run the VSK launcher, if I check for an Update, then VSK returns, "Failed in async operation, Error 12169". After some Googling, I suspect this to be an "ERROR_INTERNET_SEC_INVALID_CERT 12169" problem with an SSL certificate being invalid, but that's just a guess, and anyway, I don't know how to deal with this issue. If that is the problem, it's odd, because the error does not occur at that point when running VSK on my Windows 7 PC.

If I use the VSK launcher to start the main VSK program in Wine, the program tries to log into the VSK server, fails, then returns "Ladder disabled. You won't be able to play in official mode", then crashes. It doesn't give any error information at that point.

Interestingly, I can run Internet Explorer under Wine, and there are no problems reaching any web sites that I have tried.

Also, I have MS Office 2007 installed through Wine, and MS Word has no trouble connecting to its online help function.

But something is blocking Virtualskipper from reaching the outside world. I am not familiar enough with OS X or Wine to be able track it.

A somewhat similar problem happened to this guy with Linux Wine, same error code, but the big difference is that I don't have trouble using a browser to reach that https website like he did: http://www.gamersgate.com/gametutor?issue=203151

Anyone with any brilliant ideas?
