WINE 1.7.50 - Steam For Windows - No Browser?
Hi,
Running current WINE 1.7.50 on a Linux Mint 17.2 K.D.E. 64Bit desktop.
I installed Valve's Steam client for Windows into WINE.
When I run Steam for Windows in WINE there is no game store browser?
How I fix above issue with current WINE and Steam for Windows?
Thanks!
Jesse

Hi,dimesio wrote:Use wine-staging. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39403
I followed the WINE staging install instruction here:
http://www.webupd8.org/2015/06/get-new- ... -wine.html
It did not fix this issue for me, Steam for Windows still has no game browser?
Also I don't have WINE configure link in my Start menu?

Re: WINE 1.7.50 - Steam For Windows - No Browser?
It might not matter but you should have gone to wine-staging.com directly and followed their install instructions. afaik staging doesn't add links, for example winecfg is /opt/wine-staging/bin/winecfg
That said the patches in wine-staging don't fix steam for me either. I've said as much in the bug report but haven't really gotten any feedback. You might consider adding a comment there with a brief summary of your system setup / what you've tried / anything that might be relevant. Maybe check there's nothing obviously broken with your wine setup first, though if you're sure you're running staging and everything else works you're probably fine.

FYI, the patches in wine-staging only work for 32 bit wineprefixes. The Crossover hack attached to the bug report works in both 32 and 64 bit wineprefixes, but you would have to patch and build Wine yourself.
Or you could just access the Steam store through the native client or any native browser, and then download through Wine.

Hi,
Well OK - I am flat broke and won't be buying a game on Steam any time soon.
Will this eventually be fixed?
Thanks!

Just to check are you using Wine Staging 1.7.54? You'll need a winxp / 32-bit Wineprefix for Steam. I've removed any extra patches from my Wine Staging build (Gentoo ebuild) and the Steam webstore is working OK with a fully updated Steam client.spoon0042 wrote: That said the patches in wine-staging don't fix steam for me either. I've tried to tidy up the Steam AppDB page a bit to reflect this issue.
I've still got to try out the Crossover patch / hack - sounds like a better solution (since I like to run 64-bit Wineprefixes for saved game compatibility with Windows).

Yep. 32 bit system, 32 bit wine of course. wine-1.7.54 (Staging). Existing prefix, clean prefix, I think anyway. Will give it another shot when 1.7.55 packages show up.Bob Wya wrote:Just to check are you using Wine Staging 1.7.54? You'll need a winxp / 32-bit Wineprefix for Steam. Re: WINE 1.7.50 - Steam For Windows - No Browser?
Damn sorry for that... I still had one of the Bugzilla patches applied as a user patch (never post when tired!!)
I tested Wine Staging (Git) patches - from today - applied to the Wine (1.7.55) source. Bad news the Steam webstore still doesn't work...
Hopefully this issue will cleaned up for the official 1.7.55 release of the Wine Staging patchset...
I've tested the Crossover patch (read "hack") this works and supports Steam running in both a 32-bit and a 64-bit Wineprefix. Flash trailer videos, all work fine. The patch just adds a --nosandbox parameter to the chromium runtime call - made from Steam.
So anyone wanting to support Wine Development, by buying a Crossover license, would be well supported there!

Hi,
Just got 1.7.55 now and I tested Steam for Windows.
Unfortunately it still has no game browser?

Wine Staging 1.7.55 has not been released yet - as I clearly just wrote... It will probably be a while before the chromium runtime patches are accepted into vanilla Wine.
You'll need to wait for Wine Staging 1.7.55.
Or alternatively learn how to build Wine from source...
Or buy a Crossover license...

Re: WINE 1.7.50 - Steam For Windows - No Browser?
Wine Staging 1.7.55 (released yesterday) doesn't fix the Steam Client steamwebhelper.exe issue...
I've updated the information on the Steam Client AppDB page to reflect this
The Crossover hack - maybe a hack - but it gives the "cleanest" user experience from my tests.
