Opening an existing file

Hey Wine experts!

I am very new to wine. I was able to get my program up without a problem but then hit a major snag. I have an existing file that I wanted to open in my program. I was able to find it using the navigation pane in the program but it won't open. The program is Trade Log.
Is there something else I need to do?
Is there an issue with opening existing files?
If this is fixed, will there be a problem with saving files and the accessing them again?

Wine version? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If the problem is present in 1.7.54, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
