Im using wine 1.6.2 on Kali 2.0 and its working fine. The problem is with Steam. Following the directions on the Valve: Steam under Linux page ( https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wik ... nder_Linux ) I successfully installed Steam via the ~$wine start SteamInstall.msi method. I am able to then go on to play New Vegas with no problems. But when I close the window down I cannot get back into steam unless I install the .msi all over again.
I know this there must be an easier way for example ~$ wine steam but when I do that I get:
wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\steam.exe"
Further more the steam folder does not appear in the wine program files when I search for it through ~$ winecfg.
Is there a better method of installing steam on wine? The previous time before I reinstalled my OS it was working fine and I even got a convenient Steam icon on my desktop but I don't remember what steps I took that time...

You should also upgrade Wine. The version you are using is two years old.
