Nero?

Post by EJC74666 »

Does ANY version of Nero (aside from the now defunct Nero Linux) work in Linux?

Nero is a vendor, not an application. Assuming you mean Nero Burning ROM, it looks like no one's tested it in a very long time. https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... on&iId=152

Try it in current Wine and let us know what happens.

I dont currently have Linux on my system...so I cannot. I am trying to see if I can find compatible versions of some progs I use the most for Linux as Im fedup w/M$!! I dont wanna use ANY version of Windows @ all if it can be helped. & while some alt versions of many progs do exist for Linux-Open Office Gimp etc. I do not know what alt progs there are of say Nero Burning ROM Corel PhotoPaint/WordPerfect & Roxio CD/DVD Creator for Linux via WINE-nor how comparable they are. Nor which recent/semi recent versions of the real mccoys of these progs are compatible w/Linux Ubuntu through WINE. Id like to find out before I break the seal on the Win 8 I was forced to buy no thanks to XP being phased out-& coudnt find a legit FULL/NON OEM version of Win7! So you my predicament...? :(

Many distros have a live cd version you can boot from and test without having to install.

Check the AppDB for reports on whatever apps you're interested in running in Wine.

As for burning optical discs, K3b is the most often recommended native app. It comes with KDE, but can be used in other desktops. Brasero is another one; it comes with Gnome.

K thanx. Do those progs have 'burning engines' compatible w/DVDShrink DVDFab Decrypter & Roxio etc.? I know DVDFab has a burning engine-but Ive always liked Neros more.
& right now Ive no computer to use @ all. My mobo died a year ago I didnt have the $ for a new 1 +new CPU till March-but due to MANY things going on in my life @ the time including moving from NJ-FL I didnt have the time to switch out the HW. & my ex didnt even ship me my P.C. till a month ago-Ive since been busy w/other shit-so maybe by X-mas I can get it up & running again!? & I need to replace the HD too-which was failing before the MB even die-so after not being used for 1+ yr its likely a paperweight! Sucks ass too as I only had time & enough DVDRs to back up my digital cam pix & THAT IS IT! :( So...if its totally dead I lost ALOT-320GB HD-more than 90% full! Goddamnit!
Im forced to use the crappy outdated stripped down I.E. on my XBOX 360 just to get online w/since Feb.!Talk about crappy luck! :( Thanx for the help. BTW if you or any admin has or can get ahold of a semi-recent v. of these progs & test em in Ubuntu plz let me know-as I cannot right now. ERRR!!! Thanz again man. Or ma'am if this is a female.
