Programs running under Wine can't see hidden folders

I'm trying to mod System Shock 2. The program that mods it requires that the user find the folder where SS2 is installed, but the file browser in the program can't access hidden folders, so it can't see where the game is installed under .wine. In Wine settings, I've already checked "show dot folders." Is there any way to force the program to see hidden folders?

I was able to do this yesterday, but I've reinstalled ubuntu 14.04 since then and now can't.
