Problems with Installation of SC2 at Arch Linux

Hi,

trying to install sc2 I get problems before installation. here my confs.

I have arch linux installed with the nvidia package and nvidia utils, activated multilib support, loaded nvidia kernel module, glx support, tested with glxgears and glxinfo

Mostly there is no problem with the installation of sc2. I cant even install it, hope for help.

Ok thanks, I have installed the packages, ncurses and lib32-ncurses and some other dependencies. In your thread is mentioned that arch linux (my distro) is confused between must have and optional deps, so I have installed all optional dependencies of wine with pacman. After that all I get following output.

Your next problem seems to be here:

Few things to check. Make sure you have proprietary NVidia driver installed. If you do, try in winecfg in Graphics tab enable "Emulate a virtual desktop", if the problem is missing resolution, it will help. If after this you still get the same error, try running glxgears - does it work?

Are you using 64-bit OS? If yes, do you have 32-bit NVidia driver installed? It is also important that both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers are of the same version. If not sure, please run:

You should install the winbind package (32bit version), which is part of samba.

Seems so. But clearly something is wrong because Wine fails to create OpenGL context. Do any other 3D games run in Wine for you? If not or you do not know, please try some 32-bit OpenGL application. For example, in Debian it is possible to sudo apt-get install mesa-utils:i386 to get 32-bit glxgears, perhaps the same is possible in Arch too (it does not have to be glxgears, any 32-bit OpenGL application will do for testing).

No if you want to run 32-bit Windows applications.

Obviously, it is installed improperly. I think this is may be yet another Arch-specific issue. I suggest to download NVidia driver from here: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/ . Make sure to download full driver (do NOT download "no-compat32" version - it is missing 32-bit driver). You may need to use "chmod +x" on downloaded .run file so you can run it later. Then remove completely all Arch packages with NVidia stuff. After this, shutdown X server and install official NVidia driver. During installation you will be asked if you want to install 32-bit compatibility OpenGL libraries, make sure to say "Yes". When installation finished, restart X and try again glxgears32.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to use official NVidia installer, you can ask help on Arch forum, perhaps you are missing some package or something.

Thank you very much for your help.

You gave me the right hint, my driver was not working for 32 bit. glxgears32 showned it. After that I have installed the open source nvidia driver nouveau and it works suddenly. Iam absolute shocked that we need other people implementing foreign driver stuff for nvidia.

Nvidia ist the biggest crap I have seens so far. Please never use Nvidia with linux, its not worth.

Now its working, it was an nvidia issue, not an wine issue, wine is a great project, thank you very much beeing here.
