Latest ubuntu wine 1.7.44-0ubuntu1

Post by pastim »

The latest (dev) wine on ubuntu trusty, downloaded on 12th June 2015 gives problems for foobar2000 on my system. It runs fine, but will not exit cleanly, just hanging.

foobar2000 has been one of the most reliable apps I have had under wine.

My other wine apps are fine.

I know this is the dev channel, and this problem isn't critical. I'm not sure how to provide any debug details, but if someone wants some mor einfo and can tell me how to get it, I will attempt to do so.

Try reinstalling to a clean wineprefix using 1.7.44 (or 1.7.45, which just came out today). If a clean wineprefix doesn't fix it, run a regression test and file a bug. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

A clean prefix doesn't fix it.

The regression link you provided looks to be beyond my abilities to follow. Compiling and then adding patch-by-patch and testing looks extremely complex for me. I currently can't even work out to how to find and reinstall the previous binary from the ppa.

I do know which foobar2000 component is causing problems with the 1.7.44 version (32 bit). It is the upnp plugin and the renderer component within that. I can't even stop the renderer whilst foobar2000 is running.

Is there any other way I can try to contribute information to help in resolving this?

I'm also unaware of the 1.7.45 version. Where is it?

If I run from the command line it shows that the problem is stopping the upnp servers in foobar2000.

Just curious about foobar2000, since I have never used it, what is so special compared to e.g. vlc?

Packages for 1.7.45 haven't been built yet, so you would have to build it yourself to test it. The current version of Foobar2000 is 1.3.8; is that what you're using? What are the steps to reproduce the problem?

Also, what's the last Wine version that worked?

foobar2000 is wonderful. It's a great media player, with really clever interfaces and filters. It can tag, check file consistency, act as a upnp renderer, a upnp server, a upnp control point, play every format I've ever needed, convert formats, and the list goes on. There are dozens of different plugins to do different things.

vlc is good a what it does, but as an audio player/manipulator is far less flexible (I never got any of its upnp to work properly). I use vlc as a player and streamer, but not as a media database and server.

Install foobar2000, 1.3.8 is fine. Install the upnp/dlna plugin called foo_upnp:
- help menu
- "check for updated components"
- "get more components" at bottom left
- in browser find UPnP/DLNA and download foo_upnp,
- then git Install in foobar and install it, requiring a foobar2000 restart

If the UPnP media server isn't started (under the library menu item), start it.
Now try to stop the same server (same menu) or try to exit foobar.
It hangs trying to stop the UPnP media server (or renderer)

I think it was 1.7.38 (the last one in the ubuntu trusty ppa) which I only installed on 5th June due to other upgrades that required wine (and other software) to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

However, I cannot swear that I have run foobar2000 since then, since like most windows software I use foobar2000 as a backup when no other tool will do the job easily. Prior to that I wasn't updating from the ppa regularly, but I was definitely on 1.7 as opposed to 1.6. Sorry I can't be more precise.

Yes, I understand :) , you need the upnp functionality, similar to http://kodi.tv/.

I also use several custom tags on my flacs. foobar2000 has a very flexible menu system. You can filter and sort tracks by any combination of anything you want. And more......
