Battlefield BC 2 (Steam) not launching

Whenever I launch Battlefield Bad Company 2 on steam it says that i'm playing the game, but there's nothing launching on my computer.

Start Steam from the command line, launch the game and (force) exit steam.
Then copy-paste the console output here, in a code tag.

Did you get the game to work? It does work for me in 1.7.41 (the latest I've tried). Some framerate issues, but the real problem is flickering of textures...did you have this issue? Know of a solution to it?
