wine goes offscreen and changes display of monitor when run

Hi

I do not know how to explain this problem very well but basically whenever I run a program in wine it goes offscreen, I think it looks like a presenter mode problem. I cannot see the program except when I move from one workspace to another, as it is running inbetween the workspaces. On top of that my display changes so that all the pixels are very large and everything on the desktop is pushed together. When I try to open other programs when this happens they also go offscreen so I cannot open terminal to see what the problem is...

I am running linux mint 17, cinnamon. And I have a connection from my computer to my monitor that requires a vga to hdmi cable adapter, which I suspect is the problem... But I am not a rich person, so I cannot just buy a new monitor.

Wine version? Terminal output?

Like I said I cannot get my terminal open onscreen, it also goes in between the when I have a wine program open, so I cannot see it, so I cannot tell you what the output is...I have to restart my computer when this happens because the only thing I can get open is the start menu to be able to press restart button

I am not sure about the wine version I can get back to you with that, I assume it is the latest version, since I am at work right now, so when I get home later tonight I can check

Ok I tried that several times now. I run a wine program using: cd ~/.wine/drive_c/program
wine program.exe &> log.txt
Then everything goes offscreen, the program, terminal, etc. I cannot do anything except shut down.
When I turn the computer back on there is no log file. I cannot find it anywhere, should it be in a specific spot?
I cannot see the terminal, so I do not know what is going on....

If the log file was saved, it would be in the same directory you were running it from.

What graphics card/driver do you have? If you haven't tried reinstalling your graphics driver, try that.

Thats weird, I posted something yesterday but nothing has shown up yet
Well anyways I give up, I have to much other work to do and I can just use GENtle instead of the program that I was going to use in wine, though it is not as good.
