Tmax Window(a propietary OS) using Wine?

Post by nengad24 »

Hi, Im posting here the next doubt:

Yesterday a korean company has released a new OS which is compatible with MS Windows Apps. As they state, they are a propietary OS, and i cant see any GPL code or SVN repository.Of course my lack of Korean can help to not find the open source code, but the little im able to read seems they arent going to release any source code.

I know that is quite difficult to replicate Windows APIs, so i´m asking myself if this OS is using Wine code to replicate the APIs.

If they are using, they could be violating GPL rules.

If you want to have more Info, i point you to the ReactOS Forum, where a thread about this Company can be found.

http://www.reactos.org/forum/viewtopic. ... &sk=t&sd=a
TMax wanted to support MS Windows drivers "using ReactOS as reference(sic)" thanks to "ReactOS is GPL code" but seems they werent able to "replicate" and that they just use a Kernel(i didnt find which one)and "their Code" to support Windows Apps.

I know there is somekind of not good relation between Wine and ReactOS, but it´s my obligation to aware you about this issue since we (ReactOS+Wine) are members of the Open Source Community.

Wishing that my feels are wrong, and that any GPL has been violated,

Not too many people speak Korean here, that I know of. Perhaps you
should contact the FSF?

Well, i am just following the guidelines when finding a probably case of GPL/LGPL violation:
"You should report it. First, check the facts as best you can. Then tell the publisher or copyright holder of the specific GPL-covered program. If that is the Free Software Foundation, write to <[email protected]>. Otherwise, the program's maintainer may be the copyright holder, or else could tell you how to contact the copyright holder, so report it to the maintainer. "
In this case the Copyright Holder is Wine project. Reporting to Wine project:Done :)
Maybe Moderators must be the ones who has to report to Julliard.
"The copyright holder is the one who is legally authorized to take action to enforce the license."
That means i dont have any kind of Legal power to reach FSF. Any complain must be sent from the "Wine Project" representatives.
"Once you have collected the details, you should send a precise report to the copyright holder "
This process means: dissassembling the binary code and checking against the current Wine code. I can do it, but this is a work that should be done by "Wine Project",they know better than me Wine code.

So I'm sorry,but i can´t go further.

I know this will be on wine forum...

I'm korean and i watched recorded video of its demo yesterday.

at least, they didn't use wine.
It took 1~2 minutes to launch starcraft, a 10 year old game. :p

and about ReactOS, it's still a hot potato because TMax rarely gives information about their OS.
because of this people didn't believe the existence of the OS until yesterday...

In fact, Tmax have a previous conviction - they had once used other's source code for their product. (i heard they were sued for this..... i don't know much about this.)
so some people believe TMax copied some other code again.

anyway, nothing can be said with the information given until now.

It doesnt mean they arent using Wine, but that their kernel sucks too much :)
I dont see the relation between "they didnt use wine" and "1~2 minutes to launch Starcraft".did they say in the Video they have implemented all the needed APIS to run MS Office+Starcraft?Or how are you so sure?A good explanation coming from a Korean guy can solve this enigm :). Thanks

that(they implemented win32 APIs) is what TMax has been emphasizing.
* they said that they implemented about 1000 libraries and development took 3 years.

also during demonstration, demonstrator said they wrote kernel and subsystem(the win32 compatible layer) to make environment that support win32, and this was possible because they have technology.
and he show structure of their graphic engine on which windows/mac/linux compatible graphic libraries depend.

but..... it sucks :?

nothing works.

Tmax Window(a propietary OS) using Wine?

Post by FatButtLarry »

If you youtube "TMAX WINDOW" you'll find quite a few videos.

It boots extremely fast and appears to load office and internet explorer out
of the box, which is quite a leap.

Upon first glance, the windows api implementation draws a similar
undecorated buttons and borders, and they seem to flicker like they're
running in a VM.

The article I read said it was not based on Linux, but IS binary compatible
with most Linux apps, so I would guess Unix with some limited homebrew
windows VM install from the youtube videos alone, but none of it really
makes any sense to me.

Its nice of nengad24 to post this information for us. I'm sure we'll learn
more as the software becomes available.

Forgive my poor English.

There is Tmax Window, the 1st windows XP compatible proprietary OS from Korea.

Tmax company showed screenshot of Tmax Windows.

But it is known as they mixed images with real XP and OpenOffice suite screenshots.
http://mr-dust.pe.kr/entry/Tmaxwindow-screenshot-failed

Tmax Window is doubtful about stolen ReactOS source code:

This is a post of a tmax developer.
http://www.ubuntu.or.kr/viewtopic.php?p=28734
In the beginning of development, windows compatiblity is not needed, but 3 months before beta release, patching is being continued. in addition to, Reactos OS project is reference(moreover reactos OS is GPLed)

Tmax changed to a new screenshot and told newspapers not to use old images.
This is new screenshots: http://twinblog.tistory.com/24

I think that Tmax window must be GPL violance.

The beta release date is July 7th 2009.
