WoW: cannot open non-existing files

Post by IceNekromant »

Hello everyone.

I downloaded the latest Version of wine with Yast.
And I want to play WoW.

I have allready the file "World of Warcraft" and I start the programm with the command in the terminal:

wine "Z:/home/World of Warcraft/WoW.exe" -opengl

The programm starts, I can loggin and I see all my characters, but if I loggin with one, there comes an instant error, from WoW and also from wine.
I can't see in the Error reports of wine oder WoW, where is the problem.
But I've looked into the terminal, and there is this:

And here is a picture, where you can see, what gets loaded before comes the error:

Well, I think, the error is really because of my Interface, so I've looked, what is wrong.
And I see: I haven't such files!
This files do not exist!

So, where is the fault? Is there anyon, wo can help me?

It appears that these two directories either do not exist or have
incorrect permissions.

The question is did you try to install this program using Steam and
into the user's local directory where you are logging in from? Also,
did you look at the World of Warcraft Applications Database page for
hints on what you are trying to do here?

The files do not exist.

I have the "WoW"-file from an external hard drive, and on Windows I used the folder as it is and all worked without any problems.
So, why wine need this two files on Linux while Windows can work without them? That's the question.

Additionally: I tried to log in on more than just one charakter. And the programm works if my charakter is not in a capital, like Orgrimmar or Dalaran. But the interface-problems persist.
Maybe wine has some Bugs in the capital?

If you're talking about 1.3.37, the openSUSE packages are known to be broken. Build Wine yourself.

BTW have you figured out what's wrong with them and/or open a bug with openSuse? Looks like 32-bit Wine is missing some pieces. They are packaged for 64-bit only.

I emailed Marcus a few days ago about the problem I saw with the packages for openSUSE 11.4 (winecfg can't connect to mountmgr in a 32 bit wineprefix), and I just sent him an email about the two users who reported problems here with the packages for 12.1.

How I should build Wine myself? Do you think, it is better to download Wine 1.2.3, the stablest version of Wine?

And do you think, I have to download a 64-bit-version of wine?
Sry, I didn't unterstand all.

Erm, I've read in a forum that I need a driver on my graphic card, that support 3D under linux.
Here you can see my graphic card and my operating system:

ATI Technologies Inc
ATI RADEON HD 4550
2D-driver: radeon
3D-driver: Unknown Gallium (7.11)

Kernel: Linux 3.1.0-1.2-desktop i686
Distribution: openSUSE 12.1 (i586)
KDE: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) "release 5"

Maybe here is the problem? Maybe this can help.

When a version of wine is listed as 'stable' it does not mean that it is
more or less likely to have problems than a newer version, it means that
the code will no longer be changing. Going back to the 'stable' version
means you miss all fixes, patches, and improvements that have been added
to wine since that version. In most cases it is best to get the latest
development version, not the stable one.

I see your system is 32 bit, so this may not be a problem with the openSUSE packages; the reports I have seen so far have all been for 64 bit systems.

What I do see is that you need to install the proprietary driver for your graphics card.

Thanks dimesio.

I will searching for a website where I can download an 3D driver for my card.
Or can you give me a link or a control in terminal, where it will be installed?
Sorry, i don't know many about cards or Linux.

http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:ATI_drivers

Ask any further questions about it on the openSUSE forum; how to install a graphics driver is not a Wine issue.

You should be able to do a search in Yast or zypper for either ati or
amd (sorry, mine's nvidia so I don't know which your driver gets labeled
as) and install a proprietary driver through that way. You may need to
add either the brands' repository or one of the general 'non-opensource'
repos to get it to show up.

This page needs updating, but it may be a starting point to fidn what
you need: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:ATI_drivers
