Hallo wine user team,
I am not sure if I need an original XP version to work with wine. In other words. Can I use wine without installing XP, for example. Because I have several old applications, which I would like to run on linux together with wine. Would wine emulates the hardware like a virtual machine, or takes wine the local hardware to deal with?
Thanks for your answer in advanced.
best regards

not all of them are listed in FAQ. As far as I have seen, there is nothing about hardware emulation. Is it possible, if I have the newest hardware that the artificial windows XP from wine doesn't run on it, or emulates wine a older hardware which is compatible?

The name Wine itself traditionally stands for "Wine Is Not an Emulator",
so most people don't have to ask.
