Even more contraptions + hardy + Wine 0.9.59 mouse problem

Post by beget »

First of all, all other games and software work perfectly in Wine.
I installed Sierra's The incredible machine - even more contraptions, which installed fine. No complaints or anything. The game started up nicely and everything seems to work fine, but my mouse buttons do not work at all. It does no register any clicks of my mouse, but I can move around the menus by moving the mouse over a button which highlights it, and then pressing enter. This method does not allow me to play the game itself, for moving objects with enter is not possible.
As said, this is the first and only time I have encountered it, and for the likes of me can't figure it out.

Remove/disable compiz and any mouse emulators.

I don't have compiz installed, and I don't really know what a mouse emulator is? I'm running a pretty much stock hardy, with only games and network software added. Thanks for your help, but unfortunately that didn't solve my problem.
edit. my computer is Acer Aspire 3003 laptop, if that plays any part in it.

PS. I am rather new to ubuntu, so simplify your answers, thanks

Did you explicitly un-installed compiz? It is installed and enabled by default on 8.04.
For mouse emulators - don't know there are lots of them. Some been reported having issues with Wine. Inspect all your running processes ('ps xc') what they are and where they came from.

I have not uninstalled or disabled compiz, for I have not found a single trace of it in my system, no mention on the running processes or installed programs. Of course I can be wrong, or unable to look at a correct place. As I understood it, compiz is some sort of system to create visual effects for ubuntu? I for one have such a poor graphics card (integrated SiS card) that can do no visual effects, so all of them are disabled. Just to be on the safe side, here is a list of the processes that are running on my system, so if you can tell me anything, it would be very helpful. Thank you already for all the help you have given.

You should use 'ps ax' to really list all programs.
