Gurps Character Assistant 4
Dear Sirs;
I am a total Ubuntu NEWB, so I request a Little patience please.
Using Ubuntu 8.10 I downloaded Wine 1.1.23 by adding it to my package manager according to
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb
I installed Gurps Character Assistant 4 according to the App DB ,INCLUDING copying the windows files over to the wine install and downloading both the latest updates fom SJ, and it seems it generates an error popup
"modforms:buildsmartbar:Error 30001 Unable to open picture file "%1" then the application closes.
Googling this error found a few people with this issue dating from mar09, but no resolutions or responses.
I read the Forum Guidelines but the line
wine your_app.exe &> /tmp/log.txt 2>&1
Logs this
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\gca4.exe": Module not found
I am currently installing the software required for regression testing as stated in the forum guidelines.
Firstly, Is it possible I installed the app incorrectly installed?
Can you help me get the wine logging terminal command correct?
Is there anything else I should do?
Thanks.

Still receiving error
I have followed all the examples of installing gca I have been able to find. I have found the main page for installing the program here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=16036
I am running:
Ubuntu 9.04
GCA 4.0.371
wine 1.1.28
and the error:
modForms:BuildSmartBar: Error 30001: Unable to open the picture file "%1"
when gca is loading the current loading file states (splash screen on startup):
Reading 2 Damage Conversions
Here is what i did:
-ran winecfg
-set default to win XP (same results when trying vista)
-installed gca via the installer
-ran the update file to update to 4.0.371
-ran the second data files updater
-replaced the oleaut32.dll and riched20.dll files (smae results when i did not replace them) with versions from a win xp install i no longer use (dual boot)
from command line i cd'd into the gurps directory and ran:
wine gca4.exe &> /tmp/log.txt 2>&1
and i still recieved the error as stated above. the result from my log file is below. Am I missing something? I have also tried using dll files from sources on the internet and I have the same result. I tried overriding the dll files from winecfg and no difference. Any ideas?

Gurps Character Assistant 4
You have to go back to winecfg and set the libaries so that the native versions will be used. Also, the libraries have to be in the same directory as the program and not in windows/system32.I have followed all the examples of installing gca I have been able to find. I have found the main page for installing the program here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=16036
I am running:
Ubuntu 9.04
GCA 4.0.371
wine 1.1.28
and the error:
modForms:BuildSmartBar: Error 30001: Unable to open the picture file "%1"
when gca is loading the current loading file states (splash screen on startup):
Reading 2 Damage Conversions
Here is what i did:
-ran winecfg
-set default to win XP (same results when trying vista)
-installed gca via the installer
-ran the update file to update to 4.0.371
-ran the second data files updater
-replaced the oleaut32.dll and riched20.dll files (smae results when i did not replace them) with versions from a win xp install i no longer use (dual boot)

Uh... can someone walk me through this step-by-step? I am VERY new to Linux (like 4 hours new) and I have no idea what you just said. You have to go back to winecfg and set the libaries so that the native versions will be used. Also, the libraries have to be in the same directory as the program and not in windows/system32.

Please... someone... anyone... explain this to me again and talk to me like I'm five.

Try using wine-1.3.11
(see http://www.winehq.org/download ).
and winetricks riched20
(see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-bb6a7a9 ... 3e5217c3bf )
If that doesn't do it, add on top of that
winetricks vcrun6 native_oleaut32
and let us know what happens.

Re: Gurps Character Assistant 4
I am also in need of help with GUPRS Character Assistant 4.
I am using Ubunto 12.4 with WINE 1.4.1. I have been bashint my brain trying to figure out why I cannot get the print preview or print function to show me anything other than a blank page. When I try to go to Tools>Options>Current Character Sheet and change the "Quick View" selection to charactersheet, the whole thing crashes. Could anyone please give me some troubleshooting steps to help fix this?
Thank you.
