A) Don't run wine as root.
B) Don't run applications from your windows partition. Install them in wine.

i face the same problem. After approximately 15 playing Dota maps in eurobattle.net servers the game crashes , with the same wine log messages. I run it in an ubuntu 8.10 box with : amd 9850 , ati sapphire 4850 512mb ddr3 kai 8gb of ram , with wine 1.1.20.
However , when i play the game in my netbook( acer aspire one) with the same version of wine and ubuntu , it plays flawlessly , but i run the game in the lowest resolution and all the graphics set to medium. The acer aspire one has an Intel Mobile 945GM Express Intergrated Graphics Controller.

i'll try to run it in my main system with low graphics and see what happens.

Ubuntu 9.04
Wine 1.1.20
Asus PRO55S
ATI / AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver
Warcraft version?

1.22a works fine for me (haven't tested it under the latest Wine and
hosting games is broken by a long standing Wine bug...), 1.23a works
for battle.net, but it is unable to join LAN games and crashes if in
the menus for too long.

Austin: Warcraft is known to work fine under Windows when copied
around. No idea about possible filesystem issues though...

int2ag0n: Are both systems using OpenGL mode? (AppDB has a registry
setting that works when using it with a battle.net loader)

hello everyone, i have the same problems.

AMD processor, integrated graphics card, Radeon 3200:

err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"dbghelp.dll": /usr/local/bin/../lib/wine/dbghelp.dll.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"dbghelp.dll": /usr/local/bin/../lib/wine/dbghelp.dll.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"dbghelp.dll": /usr/local/bin/../lib/wine/dbghelp.dll.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory
err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"winedos.dll": /usr/local/bin/../lib/wine/winedos.dll.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory
err:dosmem:load_winedos Could not load winedos.dll, DOS subsystem unavailable
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7d70b903

the above is the error message, i am using the proprietary ATI driver, running in full screen mode, good frame rate and everything. but it crashes like 15 minutes or 30 mins into the game quite consistently. i ran the game with the -opengl flag.

wine version 1.0.1, warcraft patched to the latest version.
anyone has anymore ideas on what i could try on? (i tried wine v 1.1.25 too but crashes too)

Hello guys.
Sorry for not replying for so long ( i was on holiday).
I managed to play warcraft (dota maps) flawlessly for about 4 hours. However the game after 4 to 5 hours exits with an error that occured in War3x.mpq file (i think it has to do with the nocd crack , not with wine. I use wine version 1.1.20 in ubuntu 9.04 with the latest updates. I think that the tweaks in order to play without crashes is in the display settings of the game. Particularly i play the game with the following settings :
res: 1600x1200x32
Model Detail: Low
Animation Quality: Low
Texture Quality: Low
Particles: Medium
Lights : Low
Unit Shadows :On
Occlusion: On
Spell Detail: Medium

I recommend you start lowering the settings in order to test it , if you haven't done it already.

I ran the game from the shortcut of the euroloader program of Eurobattle.net on the desktop containing this command :

Code: Select all

env WINEPREFIX="/home/internat/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\euroloader.exe" -opengl -window
As i mentioned in previous post i have amd 9850 , 8gb ram 1066 , a sapphire 4850 512mb(the ati propriety driver) in a sapphire PC-AM2RD790 mobo.

You should not be cracking Warcraft. New versions do not require the CD anymore.

It kinda works

Post by gigabit3 »

hi and thanks for the reply,

i followed your advice (the one you posted quite some time ago) and lowered the settings and it actually works!

i changed most of the stuff to 'medium' and the last 10 games, i had only 1 crash. and during that crash, i can somewhat feel its coming as the frame rate decreased minutes before it happened.

by the way, how do you run it at 1600x1200?

I have an 24'' LG that has maximum 1920x1200 res. In the video settings menu the maximum attainable res is 1600x1200 which isn't widescreen and it doesnt cover the whole monitor when you use it fullscreen. So i play it window mode with the command from the previous post . I press the maximize button in the window and i remove the up and down panels that i have , so the warcraft window takes covers all the screen , (the graphics are slighty streched with this). Also i had to got used to use the arrow keys on the keyboard in order to scroll up / down /left / right in the game , i got used to it very quickly.

running at 1600x1200

Post by gigabit3 »

hi.. i realised you were running in window-ed mode. i changed some of the registry values to make it run at 1600x1200 (at least i believe so) in full screen mode.

didn't give me too much problems till now.

all this while i thought some settings were off, or something i didn't disable.
thank you@
