Is it possible to make new users' first post moderated, to stop this spammer?
Please don't put the burden on the newcomers. It's already enough with login registration (actually several for Wine) and captchas (one of them I remember being very hard and I had to wait for a day or so to get a registration).

- Is it not possible for the moderators to delete a message (being clearly spam)?

- how about a tag system allowing any registered user to tag a message as spam. After, say 4 spam tags, the message would be deleted (or put on hold for moderation)?
We delete the spam posts pretty quickly. The problem is they get sent
to the mailing list, which we have less control over.

Perhaps, before being sent to the list, forum posts could be
subjected to a Baysian analysis, with likely spam being held
for moderator approval.

actually, it's the first time I see a SPAM post since I've been visiting the forum more regularly, in the last weeks. So, from my side it looks like you guys are doing quite a good job :-) Thanks!

If you are happy with your cleaning system, I would say, IMHO, don't touch it.
