dvd drive lockup - can't eject dvd even as root

Hi,
In all my years using linux this is the first time i have had this happen,

The lockup is hard, I can't eject the disc for swapping disc 2 during a game install. Even as root with the --force option, Wine overrides root!

Is there any work around for this ?

I have tried the paper clip trick for opening the drive and swapping the disc but Wine will not recognize the new disc that way, the drive needs to be unmounted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Running AntiX - 32bit Wine version, new install, Single game installs with single dvds work, but not ones with changing discs.
