Exploring Wine's potential solution to the iLok dongle issue

Any chance that Wine can solve the Ilok dongle problem? The ilok software install and works via Wine, and it is possible to put licenses on your machine, or on the cloud. but not the dongle. I would like prefer to use the dongle, as I don't have to be online. also it seems to be the most reliable method. Is this possible? since it hasn't been done yet, I'm not optimistic. But one can always hope...
