Wine v9.2, v9.4: Tray area / icons crashing (Mailwasher)

Post by w-user »

I has this happen before, namely when I downgraded from v8 to v7.20 because of some other regression / bug, but that was a downgrade and a big one, so i didn't blame wine. It didn't happen when v7.20 was the current version, i.e. the prefix hadn't yet have the reconfiguration done to it by v8.

Now it is happening with current version when updating.

When starting Mailwasher - which resides minimized only (!) in the tray area as an icon (it has no representation in the task bar when minimized) - in v9.2, and v9.4 there is no icon in the tray area. And if there is some other windows application running that has an icon in the tray area, it vanishes when Mailwasher is started, i.e. ("the wine part of the") tray area is crashing when Mailwasher is started. Mailwasher seems to run "in the background", but is unusable because it can't be accessed.
Icons of linux applications etc. in the tray area are not affected.

No such problem occurs with v9.1, v9.3 (and any of the pre-v9 versions - exception see above).

I ran Mailwasher from terminal using v9.3 and v9.4 to see if there is a difference to be seen. There is.

When the tray area is crashing with v9.4, the output is:

X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 131 (XInputExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request: 46 ()
Resource id in failed request: 0x22017e2
Serial number of failed request: 523
Current serial number in output stream: 534

It's the same output if run from linux cmd or wine cmd. I'm not sure if "X Error" and "XInputExtension" refer to X11.

When the bug was gone in v9.3, I assumed it was fixed. Now that it reappeared in v9.4, I'm assuming, it was not fixed ion v9.3, but merely by chance didn't occur.

This is with xfce as DE, kernel version 6.6.21, xorg-server 1.11.1, libX11 1.8.7, glibc 2.38 - if any of those packages are of relevance in this matter.

...and v9.5... also having the same issue. I was hoping uneven-numbered versions were fine... :-)

kernel is now 6.6.22, glibc 2.39; still the same: xorg-server is 21.1.11 (the 2 was missing in previous / initial post), libX11 1.8.7

...and v9.6.

kernel is now 6.6.27, xorg-server is 21.1.13, libX11 1.8.9; no change since wine v9.5: glibc 2.39
