Firefox as the standard browser

Post by pheidrias »

Hi Folks,

I use WINE 1.1.8 from the actual repository under Ubuntu 8.10, Intrepid Ibex.
Freshly installed, I set up Firefox and got it running. It was asking wether I want it to be the standard browser and I agreed. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to register itself in this way. It is asking again and again when I restart it.

The problem is, that I want to use an application which calls URLs to display its content and fails to start anything (I assume the usual standard is the iexplorer, which is not installed).

How can I solve the problem?

Thanks in advance for replying,

Thanks!

Let's hope, someone will take care of it.

Do you know, wether this behaviour also occurs with firefox2?

Tanks a lot,

i'm running firefox 3.0.4 under wine and this "not the standard browser" problem never occured to me...
maybe it's because i already had 2.x installed (where setting firefox as default browser seemd to work) and updated it via "help, update firefox". could anyone try this? would be a nice workaround to that problem until someone got a fix for it.

I confirm, that firefox 2.0.0.18 works properly with wine 1.1.8.

But the "Update"-Function doesn't seem to implement the major-version upgrade?
When I "check for updates", he doesn't find any.

Fortunately, FF2.0 fits to my needs so I can use this one instead of FF3.

Thanks,
