Rosetta Stone v4TOTALe unable to access internet

Post by SweetAction22 »

Wine 1.6.1
Linux Lite 1.0.8 (Unbuntu 12.04.5 LTS)

[I was unable to get terminal output.]

The problem is Rosetta Stone comes up with an error report stating its unable to access internet (Error 5611) when I try to edit my user settings. This is strange because before this problem, Rosetta Stone (RS) searches for any updates; which i believe it once succeeded after installing. Everything else seems to be working, except for the headphones (which is not the issue of this post).

Outside howtos are not supported here, and as for the ridiculous list of overrides in the AppDB test report you followed, that test report never should have been accepted in the first place as it used both a patched version of Wine and POL. I have deleted it.

Upgrade Wine to the latest development release, delete the wineprefix you have thoroughly messed up, and reinstall to a clean, 32 bit one. If the problem persists in a clean, 32 bit wineprefix using plain 1.7.33 (no POL), post terminal output.

dimeslo,
Thanks for the quick response. I purged wineprefix in "Synaptic Package Manager". Installed wine 1.7. Then installed "wineprefix 1.7", and it responded back saying most of it had already existed. Did it come with the install of wine?
Also, when i reopened wine config, all the overrides were still there. Am I able to just delete them via the GUI, or do i have to do something a bit more complex? There is a selection in wine tricks that says: "delete all data and applications inside this wineprefix"... when I clicked on this, it asked: "Delete /home/derek/.wine, its apps, icons, and menu items?" Was afraid to go on because I didn't want to delete my installed application.
For now I'll just delete everthing I need to from the GUI and see what happens.

Also, I am unable to open the app in the terminal.
This is my input according to forum guide:
$ wine Rosetta_Stone.exe &> /tmp/log.txt 2>&1

When i just typed: "$ wine Rosetta_Stone.exe &" , I got a prompt telling me it couldn't find file in System32. I searched and Rosetta Stone is located in the Program Files..

You clearly don't understand what a wineprefix is. Some explanations:
http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-ac3550b ... fe91a891d6
http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#wineprefix

Uninstalling Wine will not delete existing wineprefixes, and installing Wine does not create one. The default wineprefix (~/.wine) is created the first time you run something in Wine. Other wineprefixes have to be created explicitly with the WINEPREFIX variable.

You can delete any wineprefix through your file manager, the same way you would delete any other directory. Winetricks will also delete all the menu entries, etc., as well. If you have apps other than Rosetta Stone installed to ~/.wine that are working and you want to keep, create a separate 32 bit one for Rosetta Stone and install to that. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#32_bit_wineprefix
When i just typed: "$ wine Rosetta_Stone.exe &" , I got a prompt telling me it couldn't find file in System32.
