Error: unable to run programmes with Wine. Please help!

I have installed Wine1.6. However, when I attempt to run a programme, I get the error msg that you can read below. This has been frustrating me and I cannot find a fix on the internet hence my post. Any help for a novice user attempting to do the morally correct thing and support open source software would be much appreciated.

Whoever built the Wine you are using apparently ignored warnings from ./configure about X11 and libpng (and probably other things) not being found.

Thanks for your reply. I just did a standard install as per the instructions on this website. What do you recommend I do?

I have no idea what you mean by "a standard install as per the instructions on the website," as the instructions vary by distro as well as by whether you are using a package or building Wine yourself.

If you are using a distro package, report the problem to the package maintainer.

If you built Wine yourself, you need to do it again, and this time install everything ./configure complains about unless you are absolutely sure you don't need it. X11 and libpng are NOT things you can safely leave out.
