Trouble installing unstable Wine (1.7)

Hello,

After being informed that my issues running a particular game server may be caused by running an immensely old version of wine (1.4), I'm trying to update to the latest 1.7 version for added function implementations. I'm running on Debian 7.5.

I tried simply installing the binary i386 package from here, but the machine complained about unmet dependencies that from what I could tell were already installed! After that I simply tried adding the Wine PPA repository by doing add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa and then doing apt-get install wine1.7; but again I got unmet dependency errors. Is there a better way I could be going about this?

The Debian package you tried to install was for a different version of Debian than the one you have, and an Ubuntu package certainly isn't going to work.

AFAIK, there are no up-to-date Wine packages for Wheezy, so if you want the latest development release, you will have to build it yourself. We have some info in the wiki, but be aware that the only part pertaining to Debian that is up-to-date is the section on building on 64 bit Sid.
