What causes -> fixme:winsock:WSAIoctl...

Post by WallyZ »

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Wine 1.74
Winetricks 20130707

All installs are 32 bit (WINEARCH=./win32 and/or WINEPREFIX=~/.win32)

Using winetricks have installed IE8.
Have installed silverlight 5.1 via IE8 browser (from MS site)

When connecting to some web sites (silverlight sites) using IE8 the browser window will hang with the following message being continually displayed to the staring terminal:

fixme:winsock:WSAIoctl -> SIO_ADDRESS_LIST_CHANGE request: stub

Have I missed something? Any clues appreciated!

Silverlight does not yet work in plain Wine, and using native IE in general is not supported because of the large number of native dlls needed.

There is a browser plugin project called Pipelight that uses a patched version of Wine to run Silverlight in native Linux browsers. It's reported to work with Netflix, and is probably your best bet for browsing Silverlight sites in Linux. Note this is a separate project, not supported here. https://launchpad.net/pipelight

Yes I have tried the pipelight solution and it works 95% of the time. It fails with LABSIM (www.testout.com) when attempting to open a lab. However what parts did work, worked very well.

You could try using Pipelight's patched version of Wine to run IE8.
