wine 1.7.4 + fglrx + Ubuntu 12.04 + Mainline 3.12-rc6 + SCCT

Post by MPW »

Hello,

I'd like to play the old Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (SCCT) in Linux. It works nice in Windows, but I don't like to reboot all the time.

System Konfiguration:

Ubuntu 12.04.3 with Mainline-Kernel 3.12-rc6 (Xorg 1.13.3)
Wine 1.7.4 from http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu
fglrx: 13.20.6 from amd.com
Graphics card: HD7970 3GB

The game runs perfectly, but only at 30 fps which isn't enough for an action based online game. By the way, I'm only talking about the "Versus mode" that's the 2vs2 spies versus mercs multiplayer, if anyone knows that game. I'm not interessted in the single player.

I googled around a while, as this is quite an old game, I could not find special threads for this game, but I read some threads about performance issues. But there are so many old threads (< 2010) and so many factors like driver issues, xorg issues, kernel issues, compiz issues. I'm quite new to gaming on linux, but used to linux and gaming on windows. Could you give me some help how to analyse where the bottle neck is?

Thanks in advance.

Bye
