PWE - All games require Arc Installer

Post by Simon of Aragon »

I play a few PWE games and I noticed today that should you need to download ANY of these PWE game titles;
  • Neverwinter
  • Star Trek Online
  • Blacklight: Retrobution
  • RaiderZ
  • Rusty Hearts
  • Champions Online
  • Jade Dynasty
    Among others
You are now required to use their rather sloppy version of Steam called Arc. So far I haven't been able to get Arc to download anything. It will setup and run but when I click any game on the interface it just sits there and does nothing. Personally I think it is a bad idea to download Program A to get Program B. The company use to use torrents and direct download. But those are gone now.

This is apparently is no fault of WINE since this doesn't exit out with any WINE error messages.

Just because Wine doesn't print error messages doesn't mean it's not a Wine issue. The question is, does it work on Windows?

I did find a recent bug report for Star Trek Online that sounds like it might be related. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34424

The bug you posted above, I believe is related to issues with the current STO launcher (which according to their forums is also effecting current Windows users) and this might fix it --> http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showp ... stcount=11

The "Arc" is not just a new launcher but an installer. My comment should have been somewhat more clearer. I do apologize, however they don't tell you if any support modules need to be in place other than this;

System Requirements: Windows 8/7/Vista with 2-4GB of RAM, or Windows XP SP3 32bit with 512MB of RAM. 1GB of HDD space or more recommended.

It doesn't say anything about dot Net, IE8, Flash, etc.. But I have those in there regardless. So I was stating that WINE is not the culprit, while I do suspect they left out some important need to know information here. If anyone has a current set up on Arc, I would like know. I currently play the games without it, but I am "grandfathered" into the old launcher and they haven't made it mandatory just yet.

While Arc is not listed in the app database, I see at least one game has Arc listed as "working" without needed setup information.

While messing with the Arc launcher today, I found that if I right click the buttons they show some html source code? This program seems to operate on some browser principle. But left clicking has no effect. Let me know if you need me to post any other details.
