Please update to Wine 1.5. This version is over a year old and many
updates/fixes have been incorporated into Wine since this release.

That is not how you install the wine source code.

I recommend you lookup how to get updated packages from your distro
before trying to compile wine from source. However here are the build
instructions:

http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#compile_wine

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? Some of the PPAs are reporting
Wine 1.3 but are installing Wine 1.4. Can you run the following
command from terminal:

Code: Select all

wine -version
and report what is returned?

Wine Team PPA

Post by Mateusz Stachowski »

If you don't know how to compile Wine you could add PPA to your sources list and then you will be able to upgrade to wine-1.4

Ubuntu Wine Team

Open up terminal and then run this command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa

it will ask for your root password, then update your sources list either with update-manager, Synaptic or apt-get from terminal:

sudo apt-get update && upgrade

ran that in PCLOS, just to check. Here's what it produces:

[doug@Linux1 ~]$ wine -version
wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\-version.exe"

Before we get any more replies..
it should be wine --version

for example

datastore3 lxc # wine --version
wine-1.4-rc2

BTW, if its hard to tell there should be two dashes not one.

datastore3 lxc # wine --version
wine-1.4-rc2
Also it was not needed to execute that as root. I did that by accident
in one of the 1/2 dozen putty ssh sessions I have open to my linux
servers here at work..

Did you install wine after those two commands to add the ppa
repository? It should be in the list in synaptic however I can not
help with that part since I do not use ubuntu.
